The first week of Nathan’s third semester of medical school is now behind us! He had a couple days in the beginning to settle into the routine before the work really started piling up. He is now back to hitting the books for hours each day. He is handling it like a boss so far!
The classes he is in this semester are: neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology and ICM, which is a clinical class that takes place in the hospital with patients. Lots to keep him busy!
To celebrate his first week, we went out to dinner at PF Changs on Friday night.
We had a great meal, which started with sharing the hot & sour soup…
On that note – the menu planning for the first week worked out perfectly! We had fresh meals each night and by Thursday, we were ready for a “clean out the fridge” night. That left us with a clean slate to stock up for this week and no qualms about going out to eat for our meal on Friday.
Here’s what the menu is shaping up to be for this week:
1) Taco salad night – chicken with stir fried onions and peppers, salsa and cheese
2) Chicken with roasted red potatoes and green beans
3) Tilapia with cheddar cheese biscuits (a la Red Lobster) and grilled veggies
4) Chicken Caprese with salads (this is an attempt to recreate my favorite dish from Bravo! restaurant…will keep you posted on how it goes!)
On Saturday, I kicked Nathan out of the house and had some fun doing a surprise “makeover” on his study (our second bedroom). His parents were in on my plan and came over to help out. We had such a good time working together and doing this for him!
What exactly did this makeover entail?
If you recall, the study turned out to be quite pink…
It may be hard to tell from these photos, but the paint color is literally called “opalescence”. Not quite the room for Nathan that I was envisioning…so his parents and I decided to repaint it! With how much Nate will use this room throughout the school year, it was MORE than worth it to make it a place he at least somewhat enjoyed being.
They came over around 11am, and Don moved all the furniture to the middle while Jo and I got to do the fun part – paint shopping 🙂
Here’s what we came back to. He took care of everything and we were all ready to start painting!
They did the trim while I rolled the walls, and I immediately fell in love with color.
Ta da! A light olive green. Muuuuch better 🙂
Here it is with the furniture moved back.
Nathan was so surprised when he got home! It was awesome getting to surprise him with a home project, especially one that seems daunting like repainting a room. I am really hopeful that this will make all of his hours studying at least a little more bearable.
He called his parents on our way to get a rug for the study. He was so happy and thankful for their help – as was I! There is no way I could have done it without them and I really enjoyed getting to do this with them.
I am really happy with the result. I wanted Nathan to have at least one room in the house where he can really get some work done without being surrounded by florals or “opalescent” colors. I think the new study hits much closer to the mark!
That’s all that’s new with us lately. Hope everyone is enjoying their Augusts so far. Talk to you soon 🙂
