What’s one surefire way to brighten up the bleakness of a late February weekend? My mom’s birthday! I think her birthday always come just at the right time – right when I need a little fun and festivity, the day rolls around and we have an excuse for a celebration! And celebrate we did…
I got home Friday afternoon with presents and bags for the weekend, and my passenger of honor – the birthday cake! I made a homemade from scratch German chocolate cake for the weekend and got it there safe and sound thanks to Nathan buckling it in for me on the drive down.
It is my mom’s favorite birthday dessert, and I got Oma’s recipe for it that she would use when my mom was growing up. It was quite an experience to make it, but it was SO rewarding and worth it! Just to see the look on her face…not to mention it was delicious 🙂
The afternoon flew by and I got to catch up with Mom and Dad before meeting Ted for dinner at Ruth’s Chris.
It was so much fun to have him home for the weekend to celebrate! Here are some shots from the amazing meal we enjoyed together:
We left full and happy, and after a little reading back home, bed was calling my name!
On Saturday, the fun continued. Mom and I got an early start to the day with some shopping for bridal shower supplies and matching manicures.
It felt so good to get our nails done after such a harsh winter…Plus the company couldn’t be beat!
Then it was off to a haircut for me. Just a few inches off, but it feels so much better to me! Had to snap a selfie to show Nathan the new look 🙂 He was back in Indy for med school stuff, and was certainly missed!
The best part? Leftovers! Mom even sent me home with some of the cake to share with Nathan…which, less than an hour after getting home, we thoroughly enjoyed 🙂
Around 5, Ted’s band played a show at the high school dance marathon. It was SO cool to see how many kids came out to support such a great cause! And of course, Ted’s band rocked it. #biggestfan
Then it was off to one last dinner together at the North End Cafe, an old favorite. We all really enjoyed our meals and our time with each other. The days always go by too fast when we all get together! I guess what they say is true, time flies when you’re having fun 🙂
I left Sunday and came back to this…
Home sweet home…What a way to kick off March, huh? But Nate and I made the most of our snowy Sunday and had some nice time to catch up with each other. It is so great to be back together – and that’s an understatement, but I figure I should cut the mushy-gushy talk before this post turns into a novel!
Hope everyone else ended February on the high note that I got to…and, one last time, happy birthday to my beautiful, smart, and hilarious mom! I am so lucky I got to celebrate with her and am already looking forward to our next excuse for some fun 🙂
