On Tuesday, May 24, we celebrated our two year anniversary!
I’m glad we were able to take advantage of the time and celebrate on the actual day. It was a lot of fun to have something special to look forward to in the middle of a regular workweek. Nathan (who has the week off before starting 4th year) picked me up after work. We had decided to go all out for a nice dinner and stick to smaller gifts this year. Priorities!
With gorgeous weather, we couldn’t resist sitting on the patio. We both thought it felt like Bardstown, which is definitely a compliment to the area and brought back some fond memories of other dates together in Louisville.
Our waiter was great, too. He said they have a meeting every day to go over the day’s menu and we could tell he knew what he was talking about. His guidance really came in handy…we didn’t want to miss out on anything!
We had a nice leisurely dinner, ordering a dish or two at a time and sharing everything. It was perfect for an anniversary date 🙂
First up, the Broccoli Waldorf salad.
The dressing was SO good. One of my favorite salads ever. No joke.
Bluebeard is also a bakery (Amelia’s), so they bake all of their bread fresh daily. We could definitely tell!
We also got the foie gras.
Neither of us had ever tried foie gras before, so it was fun to do something different like that together. It was also delicious!
Next came our main plates: salmon cakes and the gnocchi.
I totally forgot to take a picture of the gnocchi – doh! – but needless to say it was amazing. It was hen of the woods, mushroom, fava beans, leek, parmesan, and mushroom broth. Delicious! The salmon cakes may have been my favorite of the night though. Perfectly cooked and so flavorful.
Nate also tried some of their fun cocktails, and his second drink he declared, “Maybe the best drink I’ve ever had.” High praise!
It’s clear that no matter what we ordered, we couldn’t go wrong. Needless to say, we’ll definitely be back for more! On our way out, someone from the bakery gave us a loaf of bread to take home. Such a nice surprise for us to keep enjoying all week long!
When we got back home, Nate had roses and a card waiting for me. Such a wonderful way to walk in the door 🙂 He knows me well! We exchanged cards and had a nice relaxing evening together before getting back to the work grind in the morning.
All in all, it was a wonderful way to celebrate an incredible two years of marriage. I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone, but at the same time, it seems crazy to me that 4 years ago we didn’t even know each other. So much changes so quickly in your 20s!
We had a lot of fun talking at dinner about what the next two years will look like. If it’s anything like the first two, there will be lots of laughs, fun, and adventures together!
