We took advantage of the long weekend by spending some extra time with family.
We kicked it off on Friday with a celebratory dinner with the Beachys for our anniversary!
It was the perfect night to eat out on the back porch. They spoiled us with a delicious meal with many of our favorite dishes: strawberry salad, green beans, sweet potato casserole, and pork. Not to mention Graeter’s ice cream for dessert…doesn’t get better than that!
They also surprised us with this incredible gift…
A full China set! Don found it and asked us if we liked the pattern, which is so classic and beautiful – and navy, like our wedding colors! I had no idea when we would get it, though, so this was such a nice surprise. Me and Nathan are so excited to host big family dinners in the future when we can use our fancy China dishes for everyone! We feel so blessed. Spending time with everyone was the perfect way to look back on two great years of marriage and look forward to all that’s to come in year three!
The next morning, we got up early to head to Louisville for the day. Our car needed some maintenance work done, and the dealership where we got it will do it for free for the first two years. Definitely worth the drive!
It was a pretty day to be out and about. Nathan and Dad took care of the car and went golfing while me and Mom went shopping and visited a family friend. It was a full day, but the grand finale came that evening with a delicious dinner at a new-to-us restaurant: Varanese!
Varanese was recommended to us awhile ago, and this weekend we finally had the chance to try it out. We got to sit out on the patio, listen to live jazz music, and enjoy each other’s company.
We each loved what we ordered, too. We split the brie appetizer and were given bruschetta and breadsticks on the house.
For our meals, I got the BEST shrimp and grits I’ve ever had…
Nate got the famous pork chop, Mom got the pork loin special of the night, and Dad got the strip steak. Luckily I got to try bites of everyone’s dishes and they were all amazing!
We split the chocolate lava cake for dessert. It was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal 🙂
We decided we should have a dinner like this together every May in honor of both our anniversaries, which are less than a week apart. I think it would be a fun tradition, and I’m grateful we got the chance to do it this year!
On our way home we had a beautiful sunset and rainbow to keep us company.
It was a nice summer evening for the drive back home. Nathan and I both enjoyed spending time with family to start our long weekend on a good note. We are lucky to live close enough to be with everyone and I love times when we can take advantage of it!
