Summer is in full swing! This past week, Indy got hit with some heat and humidity unlike any we’ve had so far this season. We made sure to take advantage of the pool at our apartment several times to stay cool!
It’s been a fun month for us. A couple weeks ago, we were spoiled with some one-on-one (or rather, two-on-one) time with Jo.
It was a (very) belated Mother’s Day outing to Trader’s Point Creamery to try their ice cream. It was so much fun! I’d never been there before, but it reminded me of a mini Huber’s. The ice cream is made fresh from milk from the cows on the farm.
Jo and I both got chocolate (mine was topped with Heath)…
Nathan tried their strawberry buttermilk. We really enjoyed catching up on a summer evening in the beautiful countryside together!
Trader’s Point also has a restaurant, The Loft, where everything is made from the farm too. I think it would be fun to go back and try it sometime!
This past Sunday, my parents came up to golf with us at a 3-par course. We’d been planning to go with them for a few months, and of course the day that finally worked out was a sweltering 95 degrees!
Mom and I were decked out in matchy-matchy outfits: same black skirt and some Nike kicks!
We all had a blast, and we jumped in the pool afterward to relax. I definitely see more golf outings in our future (just maybe when it’s not so hot)!
To keep up with our resolution, this month we wanted to try Bub’s Burgers & Ice Cream. It’s been on the top of our list for awhile, and we finally made time to go! Bub’s is insanely popular, and Nathan warned me there would probably be a wait. Luckily, we scored a table for two right when we got there! I think going mid-week certainly helped.
Bub’s is right off the Monon Trail and on Main Street in Carmel, so needless to say, it’s a hoppin’ area. Lots of fun people watching, especially this time of year when daylight lasts longer and it’s warm out. Dad and I actually rode right past it on our bike ride on Father’s Day!
We sat inside and were immediately served shooters of their chili. It was a fun appetizer to start with, and we were both surprised by how much we liked it!
Bub’s is known for their elk burgers, particularly “The Big Ugly.” It’s a pound of elk meat AFTER cooking, and Man vs. Food (the TV show) featured it. The entire place is lined with photos of people who have conquered “The Big Ugly.” Nathan said he would’ve had no trouble doing it in high school, but last night, we both opted for “Settle for Less Ugly” elk burgers. (Yes – that’s what they’re really called on the menu!)
We also split a basket of sweet potato waffle fries…oh my gosh. Heavenly.
Plus a house salad to split too.
I can’t say enough good things about my burger! I got it with American cheese, tomato, lettuce and onion. The bun was honestly one of the best parts – so soft and doughy, but crisp enough to hold everything together. Despite all the toppings, everything stayed together perfectly, making every bite absolutely delicious. They’ve totally mastered the art of making burgers.
Overall, Bub’s was worth the hype and the wait. We had an awesome time relaxing together, and it was nice to finally check this one off our list! I can’t wait to see what new places we try next month 🙂
