It felt like the weekend came early for us this week! My mom was in town for a photography conference on Thursday, and the convention center is literally right across from my office. I couldn’t pass up the chance to see her, and she was generous enough to stick around after her long day for a little fun 🙂
Last weekend, she gave me her Canon Rebel XT, which is the fancy name of a really awesome camera that I now get to use! She gave me such great tips while we were together and I couldn’t wait to try them out. I asked if we could do a mini photo shoot downtown on Thursday before going to dinner and she was game! It is really cool to see how much she knows about the technical side of photography. I am going to learn so much from her!
Walking around and taking photos with my new camera was a blast. I loved being out and about with Mom after spending all day stuck in an office! I decided to go with a “yellow” theme and took photos of different yellow things we saw (bikes, benches, paintings, sun reflections, etc.). I’m going to keep this project going through the fall and see where it takes me.
Mom even captured a couple photos of me in the act – fake it til ya make it!
For dinner, we met Nathan at a new-to-us restaurant, Pizzology. This has been on our list of places to try, and it is also featured for Devour Downtown this week, so the stars finally aligned!
Check out our gorgeous date 🙂
Mom and I both started with chop salads. There is lots of goodness hiding in there! The salad had romaine lettuce, roasted grape tomatoes, shallots, prosciutto, gorgonzola, and lemon citronette. Such a great starter!
Then we split two pizzas.
The Saint: Wood-roasted mushrooms, onions, peppadew peppers, fresh mozzarella, provolone, and sea salt.
And the Americano: Housemade sausage, Indiana sweet corn, & fresh mozzarella.
They were both amazing! I was so glad we shared so I got to try big slices of both. I love the style of this pizza – flat but perfectly doughy crust and perfect balance of toppings and cheese 🙂 The flavors were so different than any other pizza I’ve had, but they worked together like magic!
If I had to pick a favorite, I think I’d go with the Saint. Nathan said his was the Americano. So clearly, you can’t go wrong!
We had the best time with Mom. We are so grateful our parents live close enough to spend time with us frequently. As we look ahead to residency, it’s becoming more and more real that that may not always be the case. I definitely want to soak it up as much as I can while we’re here!
Thanks Mom for making Thursday feel like Friday! Such a treat and already looking forward to next time 🙂
