What a week! We’ve had a busy few days with Nathan’s first residency interview, some appointments, small group, late-night lectures, and more. By the time Thursday rolled around, we were ready for a fun and relaxing dinner with my mom, who was in town for an appointment and stuck around to see us after work!
It was such a treat and just what we needed. We decided to stay downtown after work and go to Mimi Blue, a place that’s been on our list all year. They specialize in meatballs, and you literally write on the menus to make your order so you can see all the different options. It was hard to choose! We each decided to do the 4-ball combo so we could mix and match different types of meatballs and sauces.
Here’s what I ordered: 2 turkey meat balls, 1 with garlic cream sauce and 1 with mushroom gravy; 1 classic meatball with spicy Bolognese; and 1 buffalo turkey meatball with honey sriracha.
They were all SO good! I loved getting to try a little bit of everything.
Mom and Nathan got a few different ones…Nate tried the spicy cilantro sauce on a couple and also got the “special” meatball of the week which was beef, cheddar, and jalapeno meatball with a bacon cream sauce. Yum!
Mom tried the veggie meatball for one of hers and some of the same ones I tried too.
We all agreed they were each delicious. And I especially loved the perfect French bread that came on the side! We shared a few other side dishes, which were big enough to split. We ordered the mac ‘n queso (!!!), fried brussels sprouts, and chef’s vegetables (zucchini, red pepper, squash).
AMAZING. Nate said, “These brussels sprouts literally taste like French fries!” I’d call that a win 🙂 The mac ‘n queso was also as good as it sounds…definitely would come back just for that.
My favorite meatball combo was the buffalo turkey with honey sriracha, but they were all great in their own way. I don’t think I would ever be able to choose just one – it was the variety that made it so enjoyable. It was fun to go somewhere that specializes in something so different, like meatballs!
The place filled up as the evening went on, so I’d recommend going early-ish if you can (plus it’s street parking, so you want to snag a spot close by). The interior is so nice and cozy – exposed brick, dark wood, and an open view to the kitchen. Loved the ambiance of the whole place. Mimi Blue has a Carmel location as well, and both places do brunch on the weekends that looked really good (biscuits and gravy with sausage meatballs anyone??). The prices weren’t exorbitant, so I definitely see us coming back for more!
Last but not least…How perfect is this sign across the street from the restaurant? Clearly, I was in my element 🙂
